The problem
The store had accumulated over forty plugins across five years. Collection pages ran hundreds of queries, and product photos were being served at full camera resolution.
What we did
- Audited every plugin and removed those no longer used or duplicated.
- Re-encoded the product library and served modern formats at display size.
- Fixed the unindexed filter query behind collection pages.
- Put a CDN in front of static assets, last, so it did not mask the real problems.
The outcome
Load time more than halved without changing platform, which had been the client’s assumed next step and a far larger budget.
